The following morning on BBC 1 breakfast TV Mike Brennan gave an eyewitness account of shooting the fire from the BBC helicopter.

What the usually critical web Forums said about the BBC pictures.....

BBC News 24's helicopter is flying over London. The views look beautiful when the camera is at the level of the smoke - below its dark and murky and above is blue and bright.

Michael Jones (tourajsig...), December 11th, 2005.Amazing footage on News 24 from a helicopter several miles distant - flying under the base of the smoke plume so you can see it curve round with the prevailing winds. Someone clever should do a screencap.

Petrochemical Explosion in Hemel Hempstead

Further to my earlier post, seems that the noise from the fuel going up could be heard in the Netherlands. The BBC has some amazing pictures including an aerial shot of the pollution caused -

Damn impressive blast though, wish I'd been (relatively) nearby with my camera. I think the BBC helicopter earned its keep today with those images it got.

So the bigges explosion in a decade doesn't warrent this reaction? This is big news and make no mistake about that. Some of the amazing pictures coming out (particually from the BBC Helicopter, before it need to refuel...) showed the awesome scale of the incident.

Editor of the day at BBC referred to the footage as "Box Office"
